What is FinTech

Financial Technologies or “FinTech” is a new financial industry that applies technology to improve financial activities. It’s used to describe a variety of innovative business models and emerging technologies that have the potential to transform the financial services industry. Innovative FinTech business models typically offer specific financial products or services, traditionally offered by incumbent brokers or investment managers, in an automated fashion through the use of the internet. Benefits of FinTech

The global FinTech investments has grown dramatically in the last eleven years. It increased by 18 times from $5.5 billion in 2005 to reached $100.2 billion in 2016. Prominent clusters of relevance to securities regulators include trading, investments, and crowdfunding.

Innovative FinTech companies are already offering competing products and services in many of the key business lines of traditional intermediaries, including assets management and corporate finance.

In addition, most of the countries around the world illustrate directly or indirectly their support for innovation and technology incubators. And most Capital Market Regulators realized the importance of the FinTech and took steps to accommodate entrepreneurs and innovations of FinTech.

In general FinTech project will support Theme one (Facilitating Funding) and Theme two (Encouraging Investment) of the Financial Leadership 2020 Program and its in line with Saudi Vision 2030 by affording new channel for financing and investment.


FinTech and the National Economy

Financial technology (FinTech) will support the facilitation of funding by creating new financing channels targeting  various sectors. Also Financial technology on the other side will create new investment channels and products.

Facilitating funding and diversification of investment channels are important factors in achieving the Saudi Vision 2030 which will encourage the creation of economic entities that will  contribute to the economic depth and add value to the GDP and the national economy. 

The Objectives of FinTech

The CMA objective  is to support  Financial Technology in the capital market  by providing a simplified regulatory framework that is conducive for the innovation of Financial Technology  within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The FinTech regulation will be designed to promote and to develop FinTech where participants can deploy and test their innovative FinTech products , services, and business models related to capital market within specified parameters and timeframes.
